Halcyon Company, the producers of the Terminator series of films, have announced they are to make a cinema adaptation of the 1974 Philip K Dick novel Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said. Halcyon holds the rights to produce works by the late author in conjunction with Electric Shepherd Productions, the production arm of his estate.
The […]

I was very sad to learn of the death of JG Ballard at the age of 78. He had been ill for several years, struggling with prostate cancer, and died on Sunday morning. Ballard is one of my favourite authors, penning such classics as ‘The Drowned World’, ‘Concrete Island’ and ‘Crash’. He said his books […]

It was set to be the movie event of the year. The film adaptation of the Citizen Kane of comic book novels is here. Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ revolutionary and inventive deconstruction of the superhero myth is a weaving story of redemption, betrayal, love and humanity.
Ah, but what about the film? In the hands of […]

My excessive excitement about the impending Star Trek film is reaching unnatural extremes. I may do myself an injury. I cannot wait to see this film. Just released is the new trailer. This is two minutes of prime spectacle. I implore you to go and watch this right now.
You will be able to view the […]

I recently finished reading the debut novel by acclaimed psychological thriller writer Patricia Highsmith. The story beings with architect Guy Haines traveling by train to see his unfaithful and estranged wife, Miriam, to finalise a divorce so that he can marry the woman he loves, Anne Faulkner.
While traveling on the train Guy meets Charles Anthony […]

Michael Crichton, the best selling author and creator of ER, has died of cancer aged 66. His books have sold more than 150 million copies and he is most famous for novels which have been adapted into major films, including Jurassic Park, Congo and Disclosure. Filmmaker Steven Spielberg, who directed the blockbuster film version of […]

I was very happy to learn that Ridley Scott is to make his return to science fiction cinema with an adaptation of Joe Haldeman’s novel The Forever War. Scott was supposed to make this film immediately after Alien and then after Blade Runner but rights problems prevented this. Fox 2000 has now acquired the rights […]

Pip and I made an impromptu visit to the Tate Modern on Bankside. We were both intrigued by the latest art installation to fill the Turbine Hall. French artist Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster’s ‘TH.2058′ consists of two hundred yellow and blue bunk bed frames. There are giant animal sculptures tacked on for good measure, including the spider […]

I shall be attending my own personal festival this weekend. It will involve relaxing, reclining and reciting. Hey, I am not talking about the mud encased rock/indie music extravaganza taking place in Leeds and the north of London town of Reading. No, because I am put off by the thought of overpriced tickets, too much […]

I do not understand why random members of the public continue to assume that my name is Wayne Carr. That is not my name. I do not understand.
As I walk along the streets of Olde London Town, both gentlemen and ladies call to me, believing my name to be of the Carr variety. They stand […]
