I’m A Doctor, Not An Escalator

In the few months before the release of the new Star Trek film I am trying to watch a number of episodes of the Original Series, or TOS if you prefer. One I watched recently was called Friday’s Child. It was an average episode about the crew of the Enterprise becoming entangled in a planet’s tribal power struggle.

This episode is one of several to be filmed on location at Vasquez Rocks and stars the gorgeous Julie Newmar, who McCoy gets to punch in the face. It has a crap swarthy looking Klingon and silly weapons that resemble boomerangs with daggers on the end, making an hilarious noise as they fly through the air, eventually skewering a victim’s guts. Mmmmm guts.

The highlight of the episode is its choice quota of memorable quotes:

Leonard McCoy: I’m a doctor, not an escalator.

Leonard McCoy: Oochy-woochy-koochy-coo.
Spock: Oochy wootchy koochy coo, Captain?
James T. Kirk: An obscure Earth dialect.

At one point Scotty, whilst in charge of the Enterprise, realises he has been duped by those pesky Klingons and quotes an old Earth saying: “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” Chekov reports that this is an old Russian saying.

Perhaps it was Russian that the most famous of idiots George W. Bush was reading when he mangled Scotty’s quote:

“Fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can’t get fooled again.”

Maybe he just said it on the whim of a hat. Goodbye fool.

Yeah, no one is going to shed a tear for the old fool around here, are they.
Just remember this: a Bush in the hand gathers no moths.
