Really sad news; David Tennant is standing down as Doctor Who after appearing in four special episodes in 2009 and this year’s Christmas episode. He says he loves playing the Time Lord but wants to leave the role because he wants go out as a popular Doctor. I was hoping he would stay for a Tom Baker mammoth duration but sadly no. He does not want to outstay his welcome.
Tennant is perfect as the Doctor, encompassing the correct amount of silliness and seriousness; a dark but affable portrayal. (Maybe a bit too much running down corridors though).
The latest issue of SFX magazine ran with a choice of ten covers so you could pick your favourite Doctor. Tellingly, I chose the Tom Baker one. His manic smile and long scarf just says Doctor Who to me and he is the only actor to play the role who may actually be an alien. Now, a new generation will think of the Doctor and envision a skinny suited red Converse wearing handsome young man.
David Tennant – I salute you. Who’s the greatest?
Who next?

Patrick Troughton was the best Doc True. But then you’d be too young to remember him, wouldn’t you.
I would have thought you would be too.
