It’s All About Me

I know it is very rude to just copy and paste someone else’s blog post but this one is about me. I apologise to Napoleon but I love his writing and you really do need to pop over to Big Arena Records and check out his podcasts. Or popcasts, as they should be known.

This is proper songwriting and you will not hear anything better in the modern hit parade. Believe me when I say ‘Believe Her’ is just brilliant.

I am not quite sure if Napoleon is being affectionate or if he is taking the michael out of me. Either way I’m narcissistic enough to enjoy being written about.

Go and give your ears a treat. Now!

Episode 7 of the Big Arena Records podcast is now on line. This week, the song I’m playing is Believe Her - another track from Electric Baby Grand.

“I love this song. It’s a very simple and uncomplicated little tune, the like of which I am prone to produce now and again when I’m in the right mood – usually a post-coital one. I haven’t written many songs like this in a while. Go figure.

“Enormous sometimes do a saccharine-sweet country-and-western version of this in concert, usually in more intimate venues; it seems really suited to those occasions and it always goes down a storm – as do other country-tinged versions of our songs that we perform, such as That Is Not Love and Make Me Change My Mind.

“There is a little story behind Believe Her that I go some way to explain in the podcast. It’s another song that is – partly, at least – about Nelson Galaxy and the bizarre situations in which he sometimes finds himself. He certainly is a great source of material for me. Very often, when he’s on tour with us, we all enjoy standing back and watching him fall into some trap or other, some state of affairs that everyone knows will have inevitable consequences, consequences to which Nelson always seems perfectly oblivious. (I’m sure he’s on a time-delay from the rest of the northern hemisphere.)

“I have said before that young Mr Galaxy often seems to be the focus of some terrible energy – some people definitely have a talent for getting into tricky and compromising situations while he, on the other hand, has a divine gift for it – but his escapades, as well as occasionally providing inspiration for my songwriting, are also a great source of amusement and mirth for those lucky enough to know him.”
