Following my recent adventures in photography I am determined to purchase a decent digital camera. I need to do some promo and album shots for the forthcoming Nelson Galaxy and The Donovans of Trash album ‘Idiot Fever’, due out sometime in the summer.
I am totally ignorant when it comes to digital cameras so I am opening this up to the floor and asking for advice. I cannot afford anything too exaggerant so I need to go fairly mid-range. I have presently got my eye on this Nikon D40. It’s about three hundred pounds and has very good reviews. It is only 6.1 megapixels, is this a bad thing?
Here is a product description:
“Great pictures have never been easier to take. Great pictures used to require complicated and cumbersome equipment along with years of experience. Not any more. The D40 is compact, lightweight and designed specifically for ease of use, yet contains all the top-quality, high-performance technologies that you expect from a Nikon digital SLR. And with world-famous Nikkor lenses, you know you have the sharpest and most reliable optical performance available. All in a camera light enough to carry with you everywhere. Beautiful photography has never been easier.”
So please let me know if you think this is a good purchase, you have another suggestion or you know somewhere I can find it cheaper please let me know. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I thank you.

NelsonI have no idea.
I have a 7.1 pixel Oympus which films and records sound and has really useful settings such as text, food, snow, underwater?? But it takes nice pics in spite of my crappiness. I’d have a loook on some camera websites or ask them to take some shots in the shop.
Have you any contacts from your photoshoot you could ask??
I think I may just go for it Jo - don’t think I’ll get anything better for the price.
